NDVI- Normalize Difference Vegetation Index

NDVI is a simple graphical indicator that can be used to monitor plant health. In simple words, it is an indicator of vegetation index based on how plants reflect certain electromagnetic spectrums. The vegetation index is useful in many ways as this can be used in crop monitoring, yield forecasting, understanding the effect of drought, etc.

One of the most fundamental criteria of a precision agriculture system is to observe plant health. NDVI provides a sophisticated yet easy to understand a way to observe plant health remotely. NDVI helps you look for anomalies that may otherwise be impossible to spot with the naked eye and gives you an understanding of high and low biomass areas.

Applications of NDVI Imagery:

  1. Tracking crop growth
  2. Detection of the area of concern
  3. Targeted fertilizer application
  4. Quantitative vegetation monitoring
  5. Understanding the effect of drought, floods.
  6. Weed detection.
