We are now living in an age of digitalization.Every sector has been touched by its blessings.But what about agriculture?

In America and Europe,cultivation is occurring with the uses of technology. This is called smart farming. More accurately, smart farming is a concept of farming using modern Information and Communication Technologies to increasing the quantity and quality of agricultural products.

There are three(3) technologies connected with the concept of smart farming. These are-

1. Information System : This is the technology which is used to collect farm data,store it and use it to facilitate different farm operations.The whole process is operated by an automatic software.

2. Precision Agriculture : This is the core technology of smart farming.It processes so many farm related data to identify the problems of plants and gives a solution to increase the quality and quantity of yields.Satellite and Global Positioning System(GPS) is used in this technology to give farmers advanced information of farming like soil moisture, organic matter,soil pH,level of nutrients,climatic data and so on.

3.Agricultural Automation and Robotics : In this technology, artificial intelligence is used to control different farm related operations automatically.

Installing smart farming, farmers can be benefited in so many ways.As farmers get farm related information in advance, they use it for their favors to increase their crops.Farmers are able to know precisely using smart farming-

• What seed to plant

• Amount of required fertilizer

• Better time to harvest

• Expected crop outputs

• Detect plant diseases

• Get weather report

• Water shortage

• Livestock feed levels

• Count milk rates for cows,goat by sensors and so many things which can be operated with a single software.

This is the whole concept of smart farming. Now,what’s the necessity of smart farming?

From statistics of 1900, in America, about 11 millions of farmer fulfilled the food demand of 76 millions of american people.But the statistics of America from 2017,about 6.5 millions of farmer are fulfilling the food demand of 321 millions of people.How is it possible? This is the magic of smart farming.

Now,this scenario can be compared with Bangladesh. In our country, land is decreasing, population is increasing as well as farmer’s motivation in farming is decreasing. In this case,how will we fulfill the increasing food demand? Smart farming could be the only and one solution of it which will pave the way of Third Green Revolution.
